Tensile entrance shade structure at Abu Dhabi Bateen Airport

Entrance Shade, Al Bateen Executive Airport

Al Bateen, Abu Dhabi, UAE Design, supply and installation of entrance and walkway tensile shade structures

Al Bateen Executive Airport is Abu Dhabi’s dedicated gateway for private and executive aviation — a facility where first impressions carry real weight. Al Hamra Industries was engaged to create the tensile entrance shade structures that welcome passengers and visitors at the terminal forecourt.

The design pairs a dramatic wave-form canopy over the entrance approach with continuous trumpet-shaped walkway canopies that guide passengers between the terminal and the car parks. The flowing membrane geometry gives the airport a distinctive identity while providing deep, reliable shade through the summer months.

Aviation environments impose strict requirements: work had to be coordinated around live airside operations, security protocols and uninterrupted passenger movement. Our in-house team handled everything from structural design and membrane patterning to night-shift installation, delivering the project without disrupting the airport’s schedule.

Engineering & Delivery Highlights

  • Signature wave-form entrance canopy establishing the airport’s architectural identity
  • Continuous covered pedestrian routes between terminal, forecourt and parking areas
  • Tensile membranes engineered for high wind exposure in an open airfield environment
  • Installation coordinated around live executive aviation operations and security requirements
  • Single-source delivery: design, steel fabrication, membrane welding and installation by our own teams
